Danny Tarkanian Launches Campaign for Nevada Attorney General
Danny Tarkanian, who serves as a commissioner for Douglas County in northern Nevada, declared on Wednesday his intention to run for the position of state attorney general.
Tarkanian announced his run as a Republican candidate for the highest law enforcement position in the state.
"We Nevadians should have an Attorney General who focuses on public safety, respects the Constitution, and works tirelessly to advocate for justice and equity for every citizen," he stated.
He states that his campaign platform involves backing law enforcement and "putting an end to the use of politics as a weapon within the Attorney General's office."
Danny Tarkanian, who became a Douglas County commissioner in 2020, is the son of the former UNLV Runnin' Rebels mentor Jerry Tarkanian.
Prior to his role as a county commissioner, he made multiple unsuccessful attempts at winning public office in Nevada. His latest defeat came in 2022 when he lost the primary contest for CD-2 against Republican Representative Mark Amodei.
Tarkanian is an admitted lawyer who completed his studies at the University of San Diego School of Law. He has also had experience working in private practice before this.
He is the second contender to join the competition to replace Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford, who is unable to seek reelection due to term limits and instead aims for the gubernatorial position; he is also the first GOP candidate in this race.
At the beginning of this month, Zach Conine, who is a Democrat, announced he would run for the office.
