DEI Leader Calls for Protests Against Dollar General in Boycott Movement
A pastor from Georgia, who initially advocated for a complete boycott of Target due to the corporation’s choice to stop its diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, is now urging people to protest against Dollar General. according to USA Today .
“The target has been scrapped because they have turned their back on us and left our community, so we've moved forward,” Reverend Jamal Bryant stated according to USA Today. “We're finished with Target, and after that, our attention will shift towards Dollar General.”
As reported by USA Today, Bryant’s TargetFast group is launching a protest targeting Dollar General where the firm's email inbox and telephone lines will be inundated along with a social media push.
“As with many companies, Dollar General has yielded to the pressures exerted by the Trump administration and has reversed its diversity, equity, and inclusion programs,” Bryant stated according to USA Today. "Additionally, Dollar General must face consequences for not investing in the predominantly Black and lower-income neighborhoods that form the core of their customer demographic."
Previously, Bryant mentioned that his aim in boycotting Target was to encourage the company to restore policies designed to promote racial equality. This includes fostering career growth among Black staff members and boosting the utilization of enterprises owned by African Americans.
Absolutely committed to promoting inclusivity for all — including our employees, customers, and suppliers — Target is devoted," stated a representative from Target in an email sent to The Hill. "We take pride in the advancements achieved since 2020 as they have enabled us to more effectively cater to customer requirements.
The Hill has contacted Dollar General for comments and Bryant for additional input.
