Gold Rush Revived: Significant Discovery Near Spearfish, South Dakota
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – Reports of a significant gold find have emerged close to Spearfish, South Dakota.
The results come from Lion Rock Resource’s Gold assay outcomes from its latest surface sampling initiative at the Volney Project, South Dakota.
Lion Rock Resources is a Canada-headquartered company engaged in exploring minerals with an emphasis on high-grade gold and lithium ventures throughout North America. On October 7, 2024, they obtained the Volney Project.
The outcomes comprise 189.5 grams per tonne from floating materials and 14.0 grams per ton from bedrock, marking some of the peak concentrations documented in the area over the past few years.
The Volney Project encompasses approximately 351 acres of privately owned land, where Lion Rock Resources possesses both surface and mineral rights. This allows them to carry out the swift drilling initiative along with an expedited permitting process, guiding it from exploration all the way to production.
The report indicates that the samples verify the existence of several separate gold target zones along with significant prospects for additional findings throughout the less-explored sections of the property. This area lies approximately 12 miles southwest of Spearfish.
At the Volney Project site, sampling revealed a 260-meter shearing zone extending along the strike direction. In this area, outcrop samples totaling 20 showed gold concentrations exceeding 0.5 grams per ton.
Forty-one float samples weighed more than 1.0 gram per ton, including seven specimens that surpassed 10 grams per ton. These rich discoveries were generally linked to quartz veins and altered greenstone zones, which are recognized as common carriers of gold within the Black Hills region.
The Volney property is a multifaceted commodity project situated in South Dakota’s Black Hills, an area with a storied past in mining activities. This region has yielded more than 62 million ounces of gold, notably from the productive Homestake Mine, which stands as one of the largest gold producers in North American history.
