How to Crush Maris in Night Reign: Your Ultimate Guide

Elden Ring Nightreign features numerous difficult boss encounters. The Nightlords, serving as your ultimate tests once you reach Day Three, are particularly challenging. Fortunately, not all battles are equally tough; some are more manageable than others.

During one of the missions, you'll encounter Augur, where your objective is the Maris, Fathom of Night. Despite being an amorphous blue creature, this monster appears relatively straightforward when contrasted with other Nightlords since it rarely seems to initiate attacks. Interestingly, the music playing during the battle remains notably serene as well.

Preparation

This particular Nightlord doesn't require as much preparation as some of the others do. but make certain to include a character with range Maris hovers in the air, occasionally making it difficult to approach her. Spells like Ironside or Recluse would work well against her. Still, since she doesn't stay too distant most of the time, melee characters should remain engaged in combat.

Although not verified, Maris appears to be more vulnerable to lightning damage, which aligns with it being a water elemental. As one navigates through Limveld, prioritize camps that have the lightning icon so you can potentially secure a corresponding elemental weapon .

Strategies for fighting Magis

Maris typically begins with two fundamental assaults. She releases approximately five sluggish, homing bubbles that target you directly; these bubbles ultimately detonate as part of her initial attack. Her subsequent assault involves generating a straightforward tidal wave affecting a limited region. Both maneuvers are relatively simple to evade. To avoid the aforementioned bubbles, keep clear of them and ensure you're not nearby when they burst. As for dodging the tidal wave, either navigate through it quickly or run sideways beyond its reach.

Maris experiences two additional powerful assaults. In one of these, it starts spinning rapidly, forming a vortex around itself. Typically, this attack targets those who get too near; however, characters with long-range capabilities such as Ironeye can easily evade it. Should you find yourself in close quarters, simply sidestep through the opening during the maneuver.

Maris will bill you for the additional assault. This particular move is quite predictable: You'll notice Maris performing a flip or two in mid-air prior to landing. Dodging this attack is fairly simple.

In due course, the battleground will turn a deeper shade of blue, and Maris will begin conjuring tentacles to assault you should you venture too near. These tentacles remain fixed where they emerged, making them simple to evade. In this stage, Maris may also release several sluggish yet destructive explosive orbs—around ten of them. Employ the tactics used previously: Simply steer clear of these hazards.

The final assault occurs when it ascends into the sky and releases an egg that gently falls towards the battlefield. Honestly, I'm not sure what would happen if this attack finished since my allies typically manage to take it out before it can cause any damage. Preventing this shouldn’t pose much difficulty for you.

Maris isn’t particularly aggressive, and its attacks are likely the simplest to master and evade among all the Nightlords within the game. Simply remain patient, and you'll eventually bring it down.
