Tire Recycling in Mid-Michigan Gains Momentum with State Environmental Grants
LANSING, MI – Various organizations in mid-Michigan stand to gain from $1.1 million in state grants designed to support scrap tire disposal initiatives.
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) stated that the organization has granted funds to facilitate 55 events throughout various communities across the state.
The mid-Michigan organizations and local governments that have been awarded EGLE grants encompass the following:
- $21,000 for the Arenac Conservation District, located in Standish
- $15,000 for the Genesee County Farm Bureau located in Swartz Creek
- $9,500 for the Genesee Metropolitan Planning Commission located in Flint
- $9,000 for the Gratiot Conservation District, located in Ithaca
- $9,000 for the Saginaw Conservation District, located in Thomas Township
- $6,000 for Greendale Township located in Midland County
Officials from EGLE stated that these investments will offer accessible and easy tire recycling options, thereby eliminating the risks of fires caused by improperly discarded tires and preventing them from becoming breeding sites for mosquitoes.
