John Cena Opens Up About His WWE Retirement: "It’s Time to Close This Chapter"

Wrestling enthusiasts have been aware for quite some time that John Cena plans to retire from wrestling by the end of 2025, but recently the motivations behind his decision have come to light.

While talking with Stephanie McMahon on her show "Stephanie’s Places," Cena shared some insights about his perspective and explained why he has decided to retire from wrestling permanently.

I would lift 330 pounds doing cleans and jerks. That included snatching 300 pounds," Cena stated. "I can't perform those lifts anymore due to how worn out my body has become.

So once I got past the sharp-edged reality of thinking, 'I'll never be able to overhead press 374 pounds again,' I decided to focus on seeing just how much I could achieve today.

The wrestler, who has won the world championship 17 times, defended the Undisputed WWE Championship against R-Truth during Saturday Night's Main Event over the past weekend, also sparking new tensions with Cody Rhodes.

"It's quite akin to the WWE course. My abilities are deteriorating. If I keep up with this level of physically demanding activity all the time, I won’t be able to keep pace,” he further stated.

Last weekend, during the main event, Cena disrupted proceedings by dragging the referee out of the ring just as Logan Paul was moments away from being defeated by World Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso. This intervention set off The American Nightmare, who then confronted Cena.

Rhodes hasn't been spotted in competition since he dropped the title to Cena at WrestleMania 41 earlier this month.

I long to be 18 again and to feel fantastic, as nowhere else do I feel such a sense of belonging except when I'm with my wife or lost in the act of painting.
