Woman Faced Deadly Confrontation After Pointing Gun During Standoff at Dollar General Parking

MARARO, LA (WVUE) — On Wednesday (May 28), law enforcement officers from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office were involved in an incident where they shot a 62-year-old woman several times. According to officials, this occurred following a confrontation when the woman allegedly brandished a firearm during a stand-off near a Dollar General store in Marrero.

Sheriff Joseph Lopinto stated that deputies were investigating a suspicious vehicle around 2:15 p.m. near the Dollar General located at 7300 block of the Westbank Expressway. Upon making contact, they found that the individual in question—a female resident of Lafitte—was inside a 2001 Isuzu SUV.

The sheriff's department stated that when deputies noticed the woman had what seemed to be a weapon resembling a firearm, they retreated from the car and started giving strong instructions for her to exit with her hands raised.

The video acquired by Fox 8 depicts a woman inside a vehicle, aiming a weapon out of the driver’s side window prior to stepping out with her hands up. Subsequently, the clip captures the woman dropping her hands and directing the gun towards the nearby sheriff's deputies.

A few minutes afterward, Lopinto states that the woman exited the vehicle and brandished the weapon towards several sheriff's deputies. Following this, two deputies returned fire once she targeted one of them.

The woman was hit numerous times prior to law enforcement officers intervening to arrest her. She has been transported to a medical facility. Upon her release from the hospital, she will face several charges, such as multiple instances of aggravated assault against a police officer.

The JPSO has not disclosed the suspect’s identity or their current condition as of now.
