Woman Faced Deputies with Gun During Standoff at Dollar General Parking

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) — On May 28th, officials report that two law enforcement officers from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office fired shots at a 62-year-old woman who allegedly brandished a firearm during an altercation near a Dollar General store in Marrero. The incident led to her being injured by multiple gunshots.

Sheriff Joseph Lopinto stated that deputies were investigating a suspicious vehicle around 2:15 p.m. near the Dollar General located at 7300 Westbank Expressway. According to reports, the woman from Lafitte was seated inside a 2001 Isuzu SUV when she came into contact with law enforcement officials.

The sheriff’s department stated that when deputies noticed the woman had what seemed to be a gun, they retreated from the car and started giving strong orders for her to exit with her hands raised.

The video acquired by Fox 8 depicts a woman inside a vehicle, aiming a weapon out of the driver’s side window prior to stepping out with her hands up. Subsequently, the clip captures the woman dropping her hands and directing the gun towards the surrounding deputies.

A few minutes afterward, Lopinto states that the woman exited the vehicle and brandished the weapon towards several sheriff's deputies. Following this, two deputies returned fire once she targeted one of them.

The woman was hit numerous times prior to law enforcement officers intervening to apprehend her. She has been transported to a medical facility. Upon her release from the hospital, she will face several charges, such as multiple instances of aggravated assault against a police officer.

The JPSO has not disclosed the suspect’s identity or their current condition as of now.
