Couple Captures Wedding Photos Amid Tornado in New Mexico
PORTALES, N.M. ( KLBK William and Daynnely Carrillo tied the knot on May 25. Their special day mirrored their dreams in every way—except for one significant detail.
Severe weather developed close to their wedding location in Portables, New Mexico, that Sunday, with a tornado eventually sighted in the far-off distance. However, rather than seeking safety, the couple chose to seize the opportunity by having their wedding pictures taken in front of the storm.
"The wedding ceremony was initially planned for an outdoor setting followed by indoor events. It was scheduled for 4 PM, but during the entire ceremony, which involved exchanging our vows, the weather suddenly changed," explained Daynnely Carrillo.
“The wind picked up suddenly followed by dark clouds. We immediately thought, 'Let’s head out for some photos.’”
Wedding photographer Chesinea Clemmons mentioned that both she and the couple felt it was secure enough to venture outdoors, as they maintained a safe distance from the tornado.
It was simply an unforgettable scene.… You wouldn’t have had another chance like that," Clemmons stated. "Plus, since we live out here on the flatlands, everyone pays attention to the weather, so we realized it wasn’t near enough to put us in serious peril.
Clemmons mentioned that she has received an overwhelming number of telephone calls and interview solicitations since. posting the photo online.
"It has just been a wild ride over the past roughly 48 hours," Clemmons stated.
Her skills have likewise been sought after by Facebook users looking to take their own extraordinary photographs—no matter how unlikely that might seem.
"Next time you take pictures of our office, could we have a tornado included?" joked one follower.
