Danny Tarkanian Launches Bid for Nevada Attorney General

CARSON CITY — Danny Tarkanian, a long-standing Republican nominee and current Douglas County Commissioner, declared his candidacy for Nevada Attorney General on Wednesday.

Tarkanian, the offspring of renowned basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian, is an influential person in Nevada with a history of unsuccessful attempts at securing major positions, such as running for Congress multiple times. recently ran In 2022, he ran against Republican Representative Mark Amodei in Northern Nevada but was defeated during the primary. He also competed against Democratic Rep. Susie Lee In Southern Nevada during 2018.

Tarkanian claimed victory in the 2020 election for Douglas County Commissioner and has subsequently secured another term.

Should he become attorney general, Tarkanian has vowed to take strict measures against criminal activity, eliminate clemency for offenders, resist anti-law enforcement narratives and regulations, safeguard Nevada residents from unjust denials of healthcare coverage by insurers, and put an end to what he calls "politically motivated legal harassment and persecution."

He additionally commits to ceasing the "politicization" of the attorney general’s office and safeguarding Governor Joe Lombardo’s plans from being impeded by partisanship.

Tarkanian went to Bishop Gorman High School, completed his education at UNLV, and obtained his law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law. Additionally, he established the Tarkanian Basketball Academy, a non-profit organization for young athletes in Nevada.
