Danville Community College Taps Dr. Cornelius Johnson as New President

Dr. Cornelius Johnson has been named the eighth permanent president of Danville Community College (DCC), following a comprehensive national search that drew 79 applicants.

Doctor Johnson is set to officially start his presidential term on July first.

“My aim is to keep delivering quality education to students and improve workforce training on the south side,” stated Dr. Johnson. “This institution holds immense significance for local families, industries, workers, and high schools in the region. It serves as an incredible hub encapsulating everything wonderful about Danville, Pittsylvania County, and Halifax County.”

Since December 1, 2024, Dr. Johnson has taken up the role of Interim President at DCC. Prior to this position, he held the title of Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Services at DCC from 2021 through 2025.

With more than 27 years of expertise in higher education, he has held various leadership positions such as serving as the Dean of Student Success at El Centro College in Dallas, Texas, acting as the Interim Dean of Student Development at Lone Star College Tomball in Houston, Texas, working as a Program Manager at NASA’s Johnson Space Center also in Houston, Texas, along with teaching stints at institutions like Indiana State University, the University of Texas at Dallas, the University of Houston-Downtown, and the University of Houston.
