Giant Eagle Seals Deal to Take Over Rite Aid Prescriptions

PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) — Giant Eagle has reached an accord with Rite Aid, enabling them to obtain their customers' prescription records.

Pharmacy prescriptions will be moved to 78 sites throughout Pennsylvania and Ohio, relocating to spots that offer greater convenience for customers. The acquisition of these prescriptions is planned to occur in stages over the course of June.

They mentioned that at two particular sites, Giant Eagle will take over the management of the current Rite Aid pharmacies immediately following Rite Aid’s departure. In these two instances, they expect continuous operation without any disruption to the stores.

The following places will accept transferred prescriptions:

  • On June 4th, the Ebensburg Giant Eagle Pharmacy will accept prescriptions from Rite Aid locations on Shoemaker Street in Nanty Glo and on Admiral Peary Highway in Ebensburg.
  • The University Park Giant Eagle Pharmacy (as of June 5) will accept prescription transfers from Rite Aid locations on Bedford Street and Scalp Avenue in Johnstown.

The deals between Giant Eagle and Rite Aid are contingent upon obtaining necessary regulatory approvals and fulfilling standard closing prerequisites. Further information will be provided as the closure approaches.
